Györ - Hungary
(approx 30 minutes drive)
Győr at the meeting
point of the rivers Danube, Rába and Rábca is often called "the
town of rivers". It is the gateway to the west, situated between
the Austrian and the Hungarian Capital. This is a Baroque and
neo-Classical town, with a magnificent cathedral, palaces,
doorways framed in stone, and elaborate wrought iron decorations.
The majority of protected buildings stand within the 16th century
city-walls. See the Town Hall, the Széchenyi Pharmacy Museum, the
lavishly decorated Rosalia house, the Carmelite church, the
Municipal Gallery, and many more. |

Bratislava - Slovakia
(approx 30 minutes drive)
It is well worth planning a full day for this historic centre of
Bratislava. Enormous effort over the last decade has produced a
charming setting of authentically restored architecture, in which
a wonderful array of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops have taken
up residence. If weather permits, a number of public parks (on Old
Town Squares, Hviezdoslav Square near the opera, or along the
mesmerising Danube) provide ample seating and public art displays.
Cultural highlights include St Martins Cathedral, Bratislava
Castle, Bibiana childrens museum.
And plan an evening taking in a concert or other performance, also
in Old Town or adjacent with a fine dinner at bargain price
before or after.

Budapest - Hungary (approx 90
minutes drive)
With the Danube River as its pulse, Budapest beats to a rhythm
of indomitable spirit cloaked in beauty and charm. And no wonder.
The Hungarian capital is exquisitely laid out on both sides of the
Danube, claiming one of the most spectacular panoramic views in
all of Europe. You can bear witness from the Buda side of the
river, on Castle Hill. From here, the spires of Parliament and the
Chain Bridge can be seen awash in golden light every evening.
Their reflection on the Danube, combined with the dotted lights
of Pest, are simply awe-inspiring.
A light stroll through the sights of Buda is perfectly
complemented by darting through the bustle of Pest. The glittering
Váci utca (street) offers up some of the best shops in the city.
Office buildings, shopping malls and supermarkets are set in
perfect harmony with the elegant St. Stephen`s Basilica, as well
as the sprawling Heroes` Square, bordered by, the neo-classical
Museum of Fine Arts. |
